Ha! I didn't know Shelties could be "laid back"? I always thought they were a little high strung? Don't forget to post a pic of your scarf...sound lovely. Isn't it nice to treat yourself once in a while? |

Wow what an adventure with the dogs! So far we've been pretty lucky with our lady she is a laid back sheltie that is about four years old.
As for knitting I just splurged and bought myself a nice wool/silk blend to make into a lacy scarf. It just feels nice as I knit it up.

A trampoline???? Oh geez! Now, I don't blame the poochie for not liking the darn thing. It crashes everything! When there are bodies home to monitor...I let him out of it. This morning I almost sent him to a nice "farm". He wanted to go out about 4am and I tried to deal but he bolted with me attached to the leash (back stairs are not good for him yet). So I went crashing through the front storm door face first (broke the door) and skidded across the porch on my belly. Little dog escaped but was back before I could find a slice of ham to tease her back with. It was raining...of course. Big Dog never went to the bathroom. I climbed back into bed bleeding, muddy, and wet. Hit the snooze twice. When I finally rolled out....it was just like that. I had to roll. I could barely stand! This 52 (almost 53) year old bod is not able to handle that kind of abuse. Lots of ibuprofin and a very long shower later, I was off to work. Needless to say, I was a tad late. Both dog and son seem to be feeling better tonight...me? I'm off to bed early tonight!! |

Wow, StarMeadow, I just re-read your post What a day! and I sure hope everything is melted by now - it was 61 degrees this morning here, supposed to be 20 tonight so we'll have a glaze of ice over everything again.
My lab mix had the cone of shame, too, after he decided my cold frame made out of old storm windows looked like a trampoline. He got cut up pretty good, several stitches in one of his ears. I can't remember how long he had to wear it, but he DID NOT like it.

I've joined a couple of local knitting groups. I haven't been back to one of them, since the talk turned political in November and I found out I was in a huge minority, politically speaking... I would like to go back, if they stick to the knitting... So to speak...
Tomorrow night there is a new group kicking off even closer to my home at my local library and I plan on attending.

Oh...and just to address the fiber fixation from the fall posts....ME TOO!!! Right now I have two different pairs of socks on needles. I got hung up for a minute with those ruffly scarves with the lacey/holey yarn. I HATED knitting with that stuff till I found these homemade wooden needles about 3 1/2-4" long. Wow! What a difference! Also had to re-roll the yarn on a toilet paper tube to keep it wide for knitting. Plus I have some yarn set aside for two hats (one for me even!) I also need to get going on something wonderful for my grand neice's baby girl due here in June. Shoot! Since I'm "babysitting" sick kids/critters today...I may work a bit on those projects! (Even though things need cleaning and laundry needs doing) LOL |

I've got a sick kid and a "broken" dog this morning. It was such a mess out by us. I kept hearing this odd alarm sound and thought one of the neighbor's car alarms was going off. Nope. School bus in the ditch right at the end of our cul-de-sac. Precariously tipped to one side full of kids. You could barely move on the road it was so icy. Another bus had come down the road and was afraid to move to either side (to avoid the ditches) and was blocking the main road. Then another bus came to get the kids...and it blocked our whole drive because that was the only level spot. I had tried to take my daughter to work but was blocked in...we went the other way, only to have it blocked by a truck that had attempted to turn around to avoid the bus mess and got stuck spinning it's tires cross-ways across that part of the road. Needless to say...everyone was a little late this morning. I don't believe there were any injuries...no EMTs ever arrived. -- Trying to get the dog out the door and down the stairs in his new "cast" and cone-of-shame is quite the experience as well. 98 pounds of VERY unhappy black lab. --- Add to that one really sick 12-year-old.... What a morning already! (of course I've been up with the dog since 2ish) |

I was just thinking that I don't remember thunderstorms in Michigan in January. I was surprised when I woke up to thunder and heavy rain. It took me a minute to realize what the noise was.

Oh my...I haven't heard of the possible tornadoes yet! I'm in Battle Creek and we get them really bad every spring because we're in a slight valley. The house we were living at a couple years ago got hit really hard by that Memorial Day storm that came through. We had 16 massive trees on one acre that got completely uprooted from the ground. It was a mess. Now we are in our very own farmhouse and I dare those storms to come at me again! I won't have it. This house is protected.by the Almighty! Still...not looking forward to that possibility. I don't like storms much.

OH my goodness this weather is insane! Snow and ice only to turn into a torrential down pour with flood warnings til tomorrow morning possible tornadoes as the cold come back in later this week! Better make sure we are stocked up oh wait I know we are cuz we're farm girls :P

Ladies,
Since Halloween is just around the corner I was wondering if anyone has started making a gifts for Christmas? I have an afghan that I started for my husband but his shift changed and now someone is always home so I can't get it done. I have 3 more to do, luckily 1 I have about 3/4 done. I have the yarn for the second one and the third well..... I still need to get the yarn. A few months ago I came up with a finger-less glove pattern. I made a pair for everyone but now I need to find the time to stitch them up. I need to make up an apron for my oldest. The other two got one for last years gifts. I would like to make more things but I don't know if I'll have time or even the inspiration to do it... LOL!

I wanted to pass this info along. I looked it up on the website this morn and this looks like it's going to be pretty nice. It's is held at our Fairgrounds here in Oaklnad County. It's called "Weekend in the Country". There are over 125 booths, artisans and antiques, crafts and creations, appraisals, food, live music, live DIY demos. Here is the website to check it out-HCSHOWS.com. So here are the facts. Sept. 29 and 30, Springfield Oaks Park- 12451 Andersonville Rd. Davisburg, $6.00 per day, free parking, free raffles. It looks like a lot of fun. I'm going to check it out this morning on the way to the sewing expo. 10-6 on Sat., 10-5 on Sunday

I have trouble with this because if I had an unlimited budget I would be at a fiber festival every weekend! There is actually one very close to me at Mt. Bruce Station near Romeo (Boardman Road or 38 Mile Road) this weekend. Last weekend I did go to the Third Coast at Wayne State on Saturday, and then stopped at an alpaca farm on the way home from Ohio on Sunday. This year I skipped the Michigan Fiber Festival in Allegan county because I was sick, but I usually go. And then there's the Grand Rapids Machine Knitters spring and fall workshops and the Monroe machine knitters seminar in July, and of course all the wonderful seminars at Crafty Lady in Utica and the classes offered at Country Stitches. Next weekend I have the Eaton Rapids $2/lb yarn sale on my calendar. So you see my dilemna.
I need to stay home long enough to knit something.

Well, I guess I can't say whether it is worth it for you. Personally, I spend two,three days there every year but I thoroughly shop the vendors, stop for the make and takes, listen to some of the free seminars, take some classes. You could cover the vendors in an hour or two. Or skip it this year and sign up for a few classes next year and come for the day. OR spend the $20 to check it out this year and decided whether it's worth it for you to come back next year. Ha! How's that for helping you make up your mind!

I am still debating. I have not registered for any classes and since hubby is expecting me in Grand Rapids area on Saturday, I can't spend the whole day at the sewing expo... Is it worth stopping in for an hour or two? Or will I just be bewildered? (MAYBE I should skip out of work early on Friday and wander over to Novi for a look-see...) If I work from home all night tonight, I could count the hours as "Friday" work...
