Posted - Dec 18 2008 : 10:29:29 PM I would love to see how each of you feel more like a farmgirl, even when you are stuck in the middle of a big city....like me.
Ill start I feel most like farmgirl when:
I pull the turkey carcus out of the freezer 3 weeks after Thanksgiving, and using every leftover from my refrigerator, make the most amazing soup or stew-just like my mom did.
I put on my apron first thing in the morning and start my projects for the day, even if I must carry my cell phone in the apron pocket.
I use vinegar to rinse my clothes, then the lavender in a muslin bag in my dryer....the next best thing to drying on a line.
When I sit quietly in the evenings and even take 5 minutes to get my hands busy with needle work.
I would love to hear yours........... |

I am enjoying that morning cup of coffee or tea, sitting on my suburban apt balcony and listening to the birds chirp and watching the sun peek thru the trees over the courtyard area. It's a great view and I enjoy it!
Also feel 'farmgirlish' when I'm attempting crafts, knitting, sewing. Having my gkids over and sharing life with them! Enjoy baking breads, homemade noodles and fresh cinnamon rolls
My 'farm' consists of two cockatiels . They were never trained by previous owner and are my challenge!! :)
Have a great day ladies!!
Blessings, Linda

I feel like a farmgirl when....
I make a u-turn along the country highway to help get a lost calf back to where he belongs after watching him fall through the fence and end up on the wrong side next to the highway. I have now nicknamed him "The Punk" and look for him everyday on my way home. He's usually playing "King of the Mountain" on a hill with the other little ones.
When I dig my toes into the cool, soft dirt where I am planting vegies.
When I get out my own tools and make something or fix something and gently tell my hubby "I can do it myself" when he tries to take over the project, but then he lets me.
When I have my apron on and am coming up with new recipes for soaps and someone says it smells wonderful in the kitchen. Love it! Hugs ya'll! Jo Farmgirl Sister #5000

Posted - May 12 2013 : 7:53:59 PM I feel most like a farm girl when:
1) I am at work (yes 40 hours a week) at a Living Historical Farm 2) When I am at home after work; cooking, baking, sewing, canning, embroidering, mowing lawn, scrubbing floors and cleaning. |

I hang laundry on the line outside for the first time each Spring (I've even done this by early pre-dawn moonlight. Special!)
I make scones with oats ad eat them warm.
I leave my house to sit on the front porch, and then step off the front porch to walk down the hill to the chicken coops, then down the gravel driveway to stand on the bridge over the creek, lean on the rail, and look down at the fish jsut below the water's surface.
I look around my living room and feel glad that there's no TV tempting us away from walking outside, talking to each other so we don't end up as strangers after 50 years of marriage.
Each day is a gift--unwrap it with gusto! |

Posted - Mar 28 2013 : 6:55:37 PM I feel most like a farm girl.... When I put the first seed into the ground to start a season of growing. When I spend the morning in my gardens with only the sound of the wind blowing through the trees, as the heat of the morning sun starts to feel warm on my skin and feeling the black dirt that was newly dampened by the day before storm. When I sit on my front porch with a book and a cup of coffee anticipating what the day will bring. As I'm walking through the woods, imagining who walked among the overgrown grass and thickets by the old barn, before me. And the best farm girl feeling to me is walking barefoot through fresh cut grass on a beautiful warm evening. What a better way to end a long day of never ending chores.

Posted - Mar 24 2013 : 7:16:09 PM I don't live on a farm but I live in dairy country so it feels like a farm, I feel most like a farm girl when I am able to gather the tomatoes that grows on my back porch and the potatoes I can to grow, I also have a blue berry plant that does well. I love it.
I have learned that to have a good friend is the purest of all God's gifts, for it is a love that has no exchange of payment. by Frances Farmer
Just follow God unquestioningly. Because you love Him so, for if you trust His judgment there is nothing you need to know.
I trust in you Jesus... |

Posted - Mar 13 2013 : 3:44:13 PM I also feel most like a farmgirl when I read Mary Jane's Farm magazine, listen and post stuff on-line and when I put my cowgirl boots on with my apron. All of you make me feel like a "really loved" farmgirl. Thanks!

Posted - Mar 13 2013 : 06:51:56 AM Ditto all the above!
I don't know if anyone has mentioned going to a farm estate sale or livestock auction and listening to the auctioneer's sing-song chant, and sometimes actually bidding? Something in me just responds to that with a thrill... A lot different than going to the mall....

I beat the birds out of bed. I outsmart the gopher, um late-gopher. I see a spider (outside) and think he is my friend. I'm fishing. I knit socks without a pattern. I see bees, stop, and watch, and watch, and watch. I watch the sun go down, and look forward to doing it all over again tomorrow.
