CMac - I haven't tried it in my laundry yet. But I made my "general cleaning" spray out of it. The fragrance is subtle but nice.

I've made grapefruit and lemon and like them both very much. I had a jar out in the sun on Easter because I made lemonade for the egg hunt. One of the guests thought that was how I made lemonade! I guess she was thinking sun tea. I took the lid off and let her smell it. :) Ended up giving her that jar and her mom some of my laundry powder. Hopefully we will have a couple of converts!

I had to bump this to the top. This is a great idea! I'm so excited to try it. I'm gonna use grapefruit and see how it turns out. :)

I use vinegar and water to clean my windows with, never thought about putting it in with citrus. I will definitely try this thanks for bumping it up.

Just wondering...do you have to use fresh peels, or can you save and use? We don't eat a lot of oranges here. i have been saving, but they are drying out, and wanted to double check with you all here.

Thanks.

Making homemade vanilla is easy Kim. Just get a fifth of the cheapest vodka you can find and 2 or 3 vanilla beans. Put the beans in the vodka and let it sit until it's dark. A lot cheaper than commercial vanilla. I have to hide mine though or hubby will drink it a shot at a time.

I would think you could use the saved ones, as there is still oil in there that will come back to life once it's soaking. I would probably just soak the dried peels a day or two longer then fresh.

I would also think the more you cut the peels them more oil you are taking off the orange peel and putting on your knife/cutting board, and so less that is going to be in the vinegar. So leave as much as is as much as possible to leave the most amount of orange essential oil on/in the peel.

Just had to say thank you for this wonderful idea. I just became a believer, I have a friend that lives on the Gulf and the sea air puts a film on the windows, and I can not tell you how much time I have spent trying to help clean her windows and then get the streaks out, most of the time we could not. Well yesterday I tried the vingar and WOW. I believe. Thanks again.

I have to tell you this has become my favorite cleaner ton use....yesterday I even washed my living room floor with it.....my bottle isn't as pretty as the one shown here I leave the peels in it & have even added lemon & lime peels when I use them.....For many many years any chemicals have really bothered me & trigger my migraines so when I heard about this years ago along with just using white vinegar I can say they have saved me many headaches that I would normally get cleaning the house....I am an old type who still does her floors on her hands & knees & I love that I can spray the orange vinegar cleaner, wait a few seconds & wipe it up plus I love the smell & it doesn't hang in the air for long......my favorite is still just plain old white vinegar & have gotten many of my friends & family to quit using bleach in their homes & going to this especially if they have children or in door pets......I even use this in my steam cleaner for the floors & for the shampooer as the main water cleaner then run regular water thur the machine to clean off any oils the oranges might leave behind.....it has become my miracle cleaner & a big blessing health wise for me...Michele'

Regarding not using a lot of oranges and the peels are drying out while you're saving them up: I put the citrus peels in a baggie in the freezer until I have a sufficient amount. They don't dry out that way.

Thanks for this. I use a lot of Citra Solve now. This might be a good alternative. My BACKYARD POULTRY magazine also had an article on this this month.

this sounds wonderful, will have to try it. need something to keep the house smelling nice and clean now that Old Man Winter is approaching. i hate it when we have to close the windows for the winter.

How lovely! I make a similar vinegar spray but with dried lavender buds and sage, and it turns dark pink. I look forward to making one with orange peels!
