This subject is and always will be a great subject especially right now with all the freezing temperatures, snow, mudslides, and broken pipes. When we lived in Utah we learned that the mormoms have 3 years of food and water storage. They use the huge water storage containers. A hand pump for your well is a good idea too. In the winter we keep an extra set of winter coats, gloves, hats, and clothes in both cars. You can get them cheap from the thrift stores. One year for Christmas we gave all our children 5 gallon buckets complete with many things. On the list was a crank Noah radio, flashlights, water, water purifier straws, powdered milk for babies, and many other things and of course a hundred dollar bill. Someone wrote in here yes you will use money. New Jersey folks went through much money in their storm a few years ago. We also had a 3 year supply of food. We have started going through it now, but if you plan for it and pick up a few things extra at the store each time it adds up. We have bug out bags stored in our coffee table (an old trunk) and plans on what to do if shtf. Be prepared even if just for a few days.
