This is where my kitty sits . . . under my sewing desk. It is probably to coolest and most quiet place in our home.

He has kidney disease.

I need a kitty now to hang out with me while I craft! Itís so sweet how involved they are. My dogs are either in the way or nowhere near me.

OK Krista . . . Next time you get my name as a swap partner, please add one of these to any tucks. I never learned to crochet, so it's beyond my capabilities. But I adore it. LOL. What are you working on now that you finished that lovely pocketed shawl? I'm doing a mug rug swap project today. Wish me luck . . . it's an experiment.

Sounds good Jean! I am actually working on another pocket shawl. After sharing that one on social media I received 2 orders. Iím still on the first one of the 2. They are a tad bit time consuming. You will do great with the mug rug. You will have to share a picture after your partner receives it!

the before and almost afters... lol!

I used a metallic type thread,, what a pain in the tuschi,, it kept twisting and knotting.... so for the next one I used regulae machine embroidery thread,, much better.

and now, ready for stuffing...

if I like how these turn out I will make more..

Oh and I made a flower pot size banner for my cousin who lives just east of Munich..
Because of COVID-19,, the Oktoberfest has been canceled... bummer...

front and back

it is not very big, it only measures 6x8 and is perfect size to stick on a holder into a flower pot.

I did a few more small machine embroidery projects,,,, to keep me out of mischief :>)

I am working on a baby afghan using some completed squares I received from a Farmgirl. I have added a couple rows to make them all the same size.

It will be a 6 X 6 square blanket.

OK Grace . . . here are some tricks I have learned that really help with metallic thread. First thing -- use the right stuff.. Go online to Superior Threads out of St. George, UT. Order from them a package (or 2 or 3) of Titanium Topstitch needles in size 16. Yes, size 16. I use the 14's for all my other non-metallic embroidery. Also, as you replace your threads, buy their Superior brand metallic threads. They are the best. Use a bead of Sewer's Aid (available from Joanns) down the length of the spool. When you are all threaded up with your size 16 needle, lower your speed to at least medium or sometimes more. And, MOST important lower your top tension to 1 -- yes 1. Test this out and see if that helps. I still get some thread breakage especially if I'm using up my other brands of metallic, but not nearly as much.

I love your redwork. I have several redwork programs. Hoopsisters is my current favorite for embroidery projects. I have several. What programs do you use? What is the format? Mine uses VP3 or VIP. We really lucked out on my machine last year. It was just before Viking came out with the new top of the line Epic and not only were machines discounted but they had a half-price sale for Mother's Day. So DH splurged for a combination Mother's Day/Birthday/Christmas gift. LOL I have scads of the GO cutter dies. So if there are any shapes you want for a project, just send me over enough fabric and tell me how many pieces you want of what and I'll cut them out for you and send them back.

What embroidery machine do you have, Grace. Mine is low-end and only will do 4"x4".

Hi Linda -- OK, now there are three of us as far as I can tell who do machine embroidery -- you, me and Grace. Maybe we should start our own forum page for sharing ideas, projects and tips. . . Don't let the 4z4 hoop limitation discourage you. There are lots of great designs and projects you can do with that size.

Jean,, thanks for the 'tips'.. and yep, sure enough,, I forgot to switch out my needle to size 16,, duh! I know better.. just had a brain fart moment!.lol!
My thread didn't break,, but it kept twisting and then would create a 'knot' so to speak.
Unfortunately the label fell off long ago, I bought the spool at a shop (fabric/sewing machine)back in Fresno, CA.. so I have no idea the brand of thread. I don't think it is RA of Maderia..
I have used this thread before,, but just as an accent,, not for a full project.
Now to put a 'post-it' on my thread spool to use #16 needle and tension at 1.
It seems counter intuitive to use a larger needle with a thinner thread,, but I am all about the project turning out :>)
Thanx again for the tip...

Linda,,
I use to have a Bernina Deco 650, but sold it last ywear,, it was a lovely machine but old technology,, but a great beginner machine,
I bought a simple Brother PE500 4x4 and used it for 5+ years,, I still have it and still use it.. I can buy and down load patterns and then plug my laptop to my machine and stitch away...
But last year I bought a Brother PE800, because it can do a 5x7 size stitchery.. and I can down load my patterns onto a stick and plug the memory stick into my machine.

As much as I would love a nive Viking, Pfaff or Bernina.. I just can't justify the cost for what little machine embroidery I do... but that is not to say, down the road I just might not be such a tight wade,, and buy one of those machine... in the 6x8 size :>)

Jean, yep,, I think there are a few other gals on the MJF forum who have embroidery machine.. we should gather up and a have a Sew Off... lolol!

Marie, your baby Afghan is going to be so cute! All the different color and style squares are going to look neat mixed together.

Gonna have a houseful here pretty soon. This year is so messed up anyway, maybe I'll just forget about Christmas and make everyone fall pumpkin dealiwappers . . . well, why not?
