I am sitting here,, with a cup of tea,, looking at the 'mess' I have on the floor next to my office desk,, I should be sorting/organizing the paperwork & stuff.. but... oh heck,, I will snag a piece of biscotti and finish my tea... and then I will get back to work on my (office/booking) desk... unless I can find a craft show on T.V.,,
snorks & giggles!

LOL!! Katmom, you are too funny!!

Have to share, as I started the monumental task of clearing out the old in preparation for the new in my sewing room. . . it became clear, I need to "USE this FABRIC NOW"!! LOL!! If I actually sit down, make a plan of action and sew up all the things I can from what I have on hand. . . I will have a ton of ready to sell inventory for my online store and at the local craft venues this spring and summer. Highly motivated now!!

Anyone else having one of these moments. . . made me wish I had started in the kitchen. . . gotta use up that half bag of chocolate chips. . . let's make cookies!! Hahahaha!!

Joanna, handling fabrics does spark our creative juices. I know you have wonderful things planned for all your 'found' fabrics.

I don't have a lot of clutter since I got rid of tons of stuff when I moved six years ago from a larger house into a small one. I'm mostly down to the things I really like but do I really need it or like it enough to want to keep dusting it. When I look at something and the care of it becomes a chore than it's probably time for it to go.

Question of the day: Do you own your processions or do they own you? Another way of asking same question is; Are your processions a pleasure or have they become a chore?

Sara-good question! My kids' possessions are a chore....what do you do with that :). I don't have a ton of knick-knack type items really. I have TONS of craft stuff, books, homeschool curriculum. But the kids' toys and clothes, those are starting to take over!!!

Sabrina kids toys are a necessity and so are their clothes. When my son started school I organized his closet this way. Hung shoe bag on inside of closet door. Top two rows held his socks. Bottom rows underwear. Top closet pole was for shirts - bottom for jeans/pants. Shoes/boots on floor. It worked until middle school when he wanted his things in dresser drawers.

Hay there.

Please count me in on this!!! I have to get it all done. I have decided that living in one home all your life has a few very big draw backs......the first being that you don't have to touch anything .... as in pack it all up ... so it goes untouched and therefore becomes clutter of items that you never use and some you even forgot you had. Not anymore!!!! This year EVERYTHING gets touched. I either love it or let it go/. I don't want my kids to have to go thru all my STUFF should I kick the bucket tomorrow. They will end up hating me. This is the year!!! FORWARD!

I am working on resetting my tall kitchen cabinet shelves. This is an old building and it is a built in that has been painted over many times. So I discovered I had to pry the cross pieces off then could not get them back in because the extra paint had made the length between notches shorter. I tried sawing a bit off and that made them too short so I had to nail it down. I will have to get to the hardware store and get something to take the built up paint off and a nice chisel. YAY! More tools! Meanwhile, Lowell is upset that all my baking stuff is all over the very small counter we have. I would show a picture but I lost the connector cord for my camera in the move.

Welcome to Everyone who has joined so far!! So glad we are all rolling our sleeves up to get this chore done!! Hahaha!

So happy to read all the wonderful comments, suggestions and tips being shared. This will truly keep all of us motivated.

I'm in my sewing studio and it looks like a tornado hit! Moved a ton of things around, now sorting all the "stuff" to decide if it stays or if it goes. If it goes, that's easy to deal with, , if it stays, it needs to be organized better and have a purpose. I have so many fabrics that never got used for their original intent when purchased. However, I have a solid list of what to make and the materials on hand to make them with.

How are all of you coming with your project??

I had a great weekend. We accomplished so much... well it's a lot to us since we have very needy toddlers attempting to help! I taped up the ripped books, organized all the Birthday and holiday bags and tissue paper into a new container with a lid, we cleaned out the downstairs room and measured for carpet, we sold 2 end tables, listed a coffee table for sale, gave our neighbor some of our unused toys, boxed up all the boys clothes that are too small, and organized all my gel nail supplies! Feeling so much better already! Hopefully we can keep this motivation up!

Yesterday afternoon I decided to move my paper crafting into my main craft/sewing room. Had to rearrange my room to accommodate the table space needed for paper crafting. . . without a table.

Moved the serger off the narrow table I normally use, put it onto the workbench next to the sewing station. Then added a cutting mat to the top of the narrow table, which worked out so perfectly.

Finally, I found two small wall shelves in my clutter, put them up to hold my important items that are used daily. .. glue, glue dots, ink pads, scissors etc. It looks wonderful!!

Joanna what a great way to use what you have in a different way to make better use of your creative space.

I have a small house so all my rooms do double duty except for my bedroom. I sleep in there and that's it. Gotta have one room that is always peaceable and in order.

When it warms up a bit I need to organize my planting containers and supplies so they will be ready for spring planting. Need to clean off potting table and put new cloth backed plastic tablecloth on it for easy clean up. I didn't do it in the fall so now it's a must do.

My containers/pots are in several different places so I need one place for all of them so I can keep up with what I have. I start off every year being neat about my gardening but by the end of the season my garden work areas are a mess. Hope to keep it better this year so I don't have as much to do next spring.

Thanks Joanna for starting this thread it helps me think about all the ways I can make my house work for me.

I agree Sara! This thread is wonderful. It's definitely been my motivation to keep going and finish what I started. It's still to cold here for us to get outside, so I'm going to have to wait tell I do any garden organizing. Way to go Joanna! You are tackling your craft room wonderfully. I hope to get around to mine soon.

I will gladly take this challenge! Lol! Starting with my sewing room! I have a separate craft room which is also very cluttered that I will be tackled after I tackle the sewing room! It may take me a little while to go through everything but I have decided to challenge myself! I am anticipating being able to get into these rooms again and start new! I have avoided them because of all the 'things' which have found their way into my space! Lol! I do feel overwhelmed at times with the clutter! This was just the challenge/encouragement I needed! Thanks Joanna for suggesting A Nifty Thrifty 2018! I have lots to go through and place in the four categories!! Happy New Year!

Joanna what a great looking craft room. Most of the time I practice my rule of if I don't use it or wear it in a year out it goes, and gets donated. We are so small here that is what we try to do. Today I'll be getting a kitchen rack to take the place of a small table with drawers. I'll be putting all my coffee stuff on it and a few other things. The drawer I have now I will have to clean out, and find a place for it to go. :( I don't know where to put it. I've been racking my brain to find new homes for the stuff. Cards, pencils, stamps, a sewing tomato. Not really a junk drawer, just stuff I use all the time. Guess I'll keep looking.

Joanna-great job!!

I got the Christmas decorations put away. Went through all the boxes, took out a few excess decorations to set aside for OCC displays, took out some fabric and craft supplies that had been tossed in there but really should be with craft stuff because if I'm making Christmas crafts I would probably (hopefully) be doing it before I get out the decorations. Then I put everything back in the boxes in an organized way. At least more organized than it was.

I still have a ton to do in the kids' rooms. Hoping to start on that this week.

Hi Deb, Welcome to the challenge!! You will soon find it is more exciting then overwhelming as things start to take shape. It sort of drives you to finish so you can start crafting again! Keep us posted on your daily accomplishments. . . even if you just opened the door and took out one item, it counts!!

Hi Tiana, I have one of those drawers too! Since it is stuff we use, my goal is to put it where it is needed. For example, in my drawer,I have several screws, nails, wire and string. It is all for simple repairs and gardening. So, these will be moved into my toolbox, since my toolbox contains the hammer, screwdrivers, pliers etc for the repairs. Slowly, I have been removing all the items from the drawer and using it for things I needed room for. . . Aluminum foil, snack/sandwich bags, fabric wipes and so forth. Now my counter tops won't be so cluttered.

As my Nana has said, "Everything has a place and Everything needs to be put where it belongs" LOL!! Loved my Nana!!
