Earning Farmgirl Sisterhood Merit Badges

The seven sections in my "Ideabook, Cookbook, Lifebook" cover, I think, most aspects of a farmgirl’s life: Each Other, Farm Kitchen, Garden Gate, Stitching Room, Make It Easy, Outpost, and Cleaning Up. Our merit badge structure grew from those seven sections.

Make It Easy

In the Garden

Beginner Level

• Make your own garden trellis with string, wire and scrap wood instead of buying trellis from the store

Intermediate Level

• Find a way to use your tin cans in your garden. Use at least 15 cans.

Expert Level

• Make your own scarecrow using old clothes, straw, and scrap wood

Light the Way

Beginner Level

• Make the chandelier featured in the “Make It Easy” section of the “Ideabook,” p. 273

Intermediate Level

• Learn to split wood with MaryJane's "brains, not brawn" method (“Ideabook,” p. 274)

Expert Level

• Split a cord of wood by yourself for use as firewood

Make it With Your Hands

Beginner Level

• Organize your tools in such a way that you will always know where they are at (or should be)
• Make your own drying rack

Intermediate Level

• Make your own lingerie chest

Expert

• Make your own hope chest/blanket box
